Super Dee Dooper Man
When I was a kid I use to dress up as supergirl waiting for superman to come and sweep me of my feet-literally!!! I’d dream about flying over the world with him like Lois Lane…God I hated her hahaha…Superman was and perhaps still maybe my ideal man (although he was an alien hehe) he’s handsome, charming, powerful and hes just suchhhh a niceeee guy!!! He rescues cats from trees, endangers his life for people he doesn’t even know, acts behind the scenes and lets others receive the credit and his modesty and humility seem so soooo geuine and appealing that these qualities leave his foes and critics confused and dumbstruck, as they try to grapple why he spends his life helping others and doing good. I guess Superman symbolizes what is best in man.
In Kill bill 2 there is a discussion/dialogue between Bill and Beatrice about Superman’s unique condition of having Clark Kent as his alter ego instead of the other way around. Superman is who he is. Clark Kent is his 'alter ego', which is the opposite of most hero's. Bill explains that most superheroes are people who have to transform themselves to become a superhero: “Bruce Wayne has to put on a costume to become Batman, Peter Parker goes to bed and wakes up Peter Parker, not Spider-Man.” But Superman's real identity is Superman. His cape is the blanket from the rocketship that brought him to Earth, he is always that strong. For Superman, Clark Kent is the disguise: He puts on glasses he doesn't need, wears a suit that's human and not Kryptonian, and acts like a klutz and a coward. Bill thinks the Bride/Beatrice/Uma is like Superman: She's a killer, and even if she'd left, settled down, had a family, it would still be a disguise from her true self…so the question is can we really escape/change who we basically are?!?! And if some how we manage to escape it…how long before our ‘true self’ takes over?!?
One answer to the first question is offered by the science of doyletics which claims that every event that occurs to a child before it reaches the age of five is stored as an internal state, a physical body state, a.k.a doyles, which form the substrate of every feeling and emotion the child will experience for the rest of its life. In other words many psychologists etc think a child’s BASIC personality is formed before the age of five…hmmm this would definitely support Bill’s assertion that you cannot change your ‘true self’. About the second question…there is a general consensus that genes take over after 40…which I guess would support the ‘true self taking over’ theory…but while I feel our core may remain the same, personality is ever evolving…we are constantly changing and growing (at least I hope we are hehe) we are a product of our past and present, genes and upbringing= nature and nurture, the family we have and the friends we make…over the years because of all the reasons above our ideas change, our attitudes change, our idealogies evolve, our habits change…I for one don’t feel I am the same person I was last year…not because I have bi-polar disorder haha but because I would like to believe im older/wiser/stronger…but what if Bill is right?!?! What if all these changes are temporary (till we turn 40 and boom back to basics)!?!? What if we cant change our true self?!?!is all this effort in vain!?!?

uma being a killer before age of 5 is highly doubtful.some efforts do go in vain cos thats life which is tuff and unfair. can u cange ure personality from that of a strong, bubbly, brutally honest and deeply caring one is doubtful.u can just smooth over some rough edges here and there. as for mistakes, those are part of every ones life journey.mistakes are usually not personality based and can be avoided provided a personality has the propensity to learn from such mistakes.ive just delievered a short sermon of bull..hehe but i had to comment.didnt seth and zack ppl have this superhero debate on OC???
personally i like superman but kryptonite is just too big of a weakness for him.batmans way too cool .spiderman thanks to tobey mcguire is a geek.if i have to choose i'd probably go for batman cos we can relate to him more, him being human and all.though smallville is currently my favorite TV serial.

First time here loved that post, was filled with loads of tidbits i didnt really know. I would however like to disagree with ur conclusion as we all tend to change in our own little ways for the better or the worse as we encounter the glorious uncertainities of life, bouncing off all sorts of people finishing up being wiser, stupider, more bitter, enlightened etc etc at the end of the day.

dont like superman one bit. goody two shoes klunk head. not a bit of reality in him. and his real manifestation is the even-klunkier-head clark kent who is really not human anyway so its dubious crediting him with motives of altruism. i wonder how much of a hit superman would have been on his own planet where everyone was like him. i suppose comic strip makers cant all be tolkein and actually make an alien population ALIEN wihtout tinting them with anthropomorphism. batman is much better, but i prefer spiderman anyway, because he is witty and real and unlike the rest is not born great in one form or the other so as to make all the saving-shaving an effortless enterprise but has to struggle towards superhero-ness. and that's what it's all about right? the effort, the intention as well as the realization of that goal.somehow every save that spiderman makes is more significant than superman or batman who seem to do it out of lazy indifference. its about Ovid over Lucretius (which now i think i will blog about kabhi); Lucretius who says that any change out of self is disparate from the old self and has nothing to do with it while Ovid says that everything new that emerges is no more than a manifestation of what was already there. Spiderman is that, while Superman and Batman are so ahistorical as to be blank pellets. Actually Bruce has a library, so I am not as dismissive about him:P I don't think you ever lose your true self, you can repress it, aspire to be something else entirely (for which you will always need external validation to reassure you that the you're playing the role okay) or you can conciously mold it. either way, your choices of who you can be or who you can become always depend on what you qualities or materials you have to start off with.you can't ever ignore that. (like this blog the best out of all so far because it made me think of something different)
p.s. maybe i am spiderman groupie because as a kid, i used to pretend to be him (my brother was superman) hopping from one corner of the roof edge to the other. capes scare me. they can get caught in branches and splat! goes the costume challenged hero.

"can u change ure personality from that of a strong, bubbly, brutally honest and deeply caring one is doubtful."
_wats he getting out of this.lol...i want my own blog groupie too!
lol(sorry jarrar)
but khair...i sort of agree that u cant change ur true self.before i launch into a personal example(i do that alot) ill say that you may feel that uve changed...but even after six years and thats how long its been since we've seen each other, i still feel ur the same mehroo from school.
a brat.lol!
i think the changes, since we choose to calll them that, are actually just alterations we make to suit the circumstances or surrounding we'r in.its like suoerman and his suit.do u get it?

J: "uma being a killer before age of 5 is highly doubtful." true but it is possible that she may have possessed the propensity to do so...its not that your entire personality is formed b4 5 its just that the substrate of every feeling and emotion the child will experience in the future is formed by nature and nurture...
"can u change ure personality from that of a strong, bubbly, brutally honest and deeply caring one is doubtful.u can just smooth over some rough edges here and there." well sana khan has just informed me that as i child i was a big fat saroo and grumpy/quiet...although im still moody and occasionally very grumpy hahaha i guess we do possess the capability to transform our personalities...
"as for mistakes, those are part of every ones life journey.mistakes are usually not personality based and can be avoided provided a personality has the propensity to learn from such mistakes." yup mistakes and habits are not neccessarily personality based and as long as you learn from em i feel itsss alllll goodddd...
"didnt seth and zack ppl have this superhero debate on OC???" yeaaaa im going to watch that episode again ive forgotten their discussion
"personally i like superman but kryptonite is just too big of a weakness for him." ive always loveddd superman but recently ive been thinkin hes just too goody 2 shoes..wheres the spice!?!?also every super hero has a weakness so we can relate 2 them batman is haunted by his past and spiderman is just ewww i guess his geeky weakness would be maryyy janeeee
"batmans way too cool" yup specially after watchin the new movie...the whole self made thing is so appealing...."spiderman thanks to tobey mcguire is a geek." he would be a geek no matter what he has NO personality man...sissy/loser/wuss i could kick his ass..
"if i have to choose i'd probably go for batman cos we can relate to him more, him being human and all." but i hate the fact that hes so misunderstood and depressed haunted by his past type a thing poor baby
have 2 start watchin smallville

ABSOLUTELY!!! i didnt reach any conclusions..just thinkin out loud but i agree we change: whether its good/bad better/worse change is inevitable but i was thinking after 40 will our genes take over!??! thats change as well but its like coming full circle...
11:27 PM
“dont like superman one bit. goody two shoes klunk head. not a bit of reality in him.” Agreed
“and his real manifestation is the even-klunkier-head clark kent who is really not human anyway so its dubious crediting him with motives of altruism.” In the same discussion between Bill/Beatrice Bill says clark kent is supermans critique of the human race: weak/unsure/insecure/clumsy etc…I 4get the exact adjectives
“batman is much better, but i prefer spiderman anyway, because he is witty and real and unlike the rest is not born great in one form or the other so as to make all the saving-shaving an effortless enterprise but has to struggle towards superhero-ness. and that's what it's all about right? the effort, the intention as well as the realization of that goal.” Yup the intention/effort is just as important as the realization and that why batman is better cos Bruce wayne spent his youth traveling the world learning crime-fighting techniques and because he realized as himself he will probably not be taken seriously, so came up with a larger than life identity/alias - batman, and took the same symbol of bats that was his biggest fear-comon Moizza that’s cool!!! Also unlike Superman (alien) and spiderman ( bitten by a spider and acquired certain powers) batman is a normal human being who does not possess superhuman ability. However, he has elevated himself to near-superhuman status through years of rigorous training. Also pluelezz tell me how spiderman is witty!?!
“its about Ovid over Lucretius; Lucretius who says that any change out of self is disparate from the old self and has nothing to do with it while Ovid says that everything new that emerges is no more than a manifestation of what was already there.” Im with Ovid
“I don't think you ever lose your true self, you can repress it, aspire to be something else entirely (for which you will always need external validation to reassure you that the you're playing the role okay) or you can conciously mold it. either way, your choices of who you can be or who you can become always depend on what you qualities or materials you have to start off with.you can't ever ignore that.” ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
”maybe i am spiderman groupie because as a kid, i used to pretend to be him (my brother was superman)” ahhhhhhhh now I seeee why you’re so biased haha :)
12:03 AM
lol. and when we were kids spiderman PLASTERED superman; even in human form. used to hit him with the phone.elder sibling was fun at times:P
12:10 AM
nahzy: "hmmmm..i recall superman being my hero when i was teeny tiny myself..but i got a lil older and snapped out of the 'make believe' stuff quick..instead, i became attracted to the total opposite 'bad ass' species haha..weird huh!!!lol" hahaha i feel ya...to this day i cant decide whether i want a superman or a batman hahaha...a mixture perhaps!!!
"more than super heroes i was more into Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and the 'happily ever after' concept hahaha..now, i wonder if there really is a happily ever after..ohwell we'll see ;)" no wonderrrr ;)you know i feel you still believe in happily ever after(i know i do) and thats what you are looking for/expecting plus or minus a few realities of life...you know its so crazy howww muchhh our likes and dislikes as children affect our adult lives...
im still trying to be superwoman which is totally unrealistic, impossible, and really not workin out for me right now haha while you are striving for-happily ever after...man cartoon preferences shed serious light on personality types/choices we make etc hahaha funny but i think no matter what we haveeee to believe in happily ever after...thats the only way we will achieve it!!
"Now regarding changing our true self..u knw how sometimes ppl tell u, 'dont ever change'..HAH!i wish!i think we cant really 'control' our changes..they just happen without a warning or any realization.." haan sometimes we change cos of our environment or circumstances and dont realize we have...and its weird when someone points it out..
"on the other hand, sometimes i wonder abt my true self, what it is and when it really comes out hehe..so if i myself have not yet defined it, then how wld i knw whether it has changed or not??" i think its harder for us to critically analyze ourselves...to identify the changes..the strengths and weaknesses...cos its not objective...we can give our friends excellent/sensible advice but its so hard 2 apply it yourself...
"Moreover, i cant say whether all the changes in my persona have been necesarily for the better..i just hope ive become better equipped with handling whatever comes my way" your cool and inshallah you will be able to handle whatever life throws your way with a smile on your face!!
12:19 AM
khizra: "wats he getting out of this.lol" hes gettin my undying love, friendship n respect hahaha
"ill say that you may feel that uve changed...but even after six years and thats how long its been since we've seen each other, i still feel ur the same mehroo from school.a brat.lol!" awwww you are as sweet as everrrrrrr!!!
"i think the changes, since we choose to calll them that, are actually just alterations we make to suit the circumstances or surrounding we'r in." yup our environment influences us greatly...but we influence our environment as well
“Although, we usually think in terms of children being influenced by their environment,it is also important to remember that children influence their environment, especially in the context of their families and friends. To some extent, the opportunities they find are ones that they create through this influence on the environment. For example, the child might get music or art lessons, not because the parents decide on them but because the child insists on having them.In this way,the child’s musical, artistic or other development emanates from the childs own influence on the environment in which he or she lives.” My cognitive psychology book from college which ive been readin lately for some reason

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." - Macbeth
Somehow I see all three, Superman, Batman and Spiderman, falling in all the above categories respectively. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Spiderman, and not just because I've grown up amongst 5 crazy comic fans who followed Spiderman's every move, but also because I feel he's more ordinary than the rest. Peter Parker's the nerd, the guy you probably wouldn't even remember from class. He didn't ask for all that happens to him, the spider, his uncle's murder, his aunt's financial strain, Mary Jane not knowing who he even is. He doesn't fight crime because he has to, not because he wants the attention (which is obvious from his horribly designed body glove of a costume to hide his real identity), not because he wants money (though it would have been nice if he could help his aunt more), not even so much because he wants to avenge his uncle's death, but more because his conscience wouldn't let him live if he didn't. The greatness that the radioactive arachnid thrust upon him gave him the ability to fight crime, but his conscience told him he couldn't ignore this ability when there was so much wrongdoing around. Bruce Wayne also chooses to fight crime and "achieves greatness", but he's a rich kid, the good-looking one, the one everyone knows and admires. He could very well have been Bill Gates or someone in a costume after 3 years of kung-fu training :P. Superman was born Superman, born a marked man. It was in his fate to fight crime since the day he was born. And sure, he's got issues of his own, but he's pretty perfect on the whole.
And as for people changing, people don't change... they can't. What people can change is the image they project to other people. Sure, we grow up, and we become smarter, but that doesn't change who we really are. Deep down inside, we'll always be that stubborn kid from kindergarten who refuses to grow up.
10:05 PM
see meher, someone believes:P if spiderman was tinkerbell he would be dead by now.
11:49 PM
Mahnoor: "Spiderman's every move, but also because I feel he's more ordinary than the rest. Peter Parker's the nerd, the guy you probably wouldn't even remember from class. while i agree that spiderman is absolutely ordinary and perhaps we need an "ordinary" super hero to give everyoneeee hope, not just the most popular kids in school...fighting crime for the sake of fighting crime and not for the credit/fame/fortune per se is not something unique to spiderman...bruce wayne a.k.a batman fights crime because his conscience does not allow him to see gotham city degenerate...its not for fame or fortune...yea hes a rich kid and he could just give money to charity instead of training himself to a superhuman level and taking the responsibility to fight crime..i think in this way he is way more special than spiderman because he chose this path as he saw the necessity for change, instead of spiderman who was bitten by a spider and acquired special powers that he couldn’t ignore...
"Bruce Wayne also chooses to fight crime and "achieves greatness", but he's a rich kid, the good-looking one, the one everyone knows and admires. He could very well have been Bill Gates or someone in a costume after 3 years of kung-fu training :P." bruce maybe the rich kid but he is not admired at all, on the contrary, to the world at large, Bruce Wayne is an irresponsible, superficial playboy who lives off of his family's fortune.
“Superman was born Superman, born a marked man. It was in his fate to fight crime since the day he was born.” Superman was born superman but again he chooses to fight crime…a conscious choice and a conscious effort
“And as for people changing, people don't change... they can't. What people can change is the image they project to other people. Sure, we grow up, and we become smarter, but that doesn't change who we really are. "Imagine that you are a boat made out of wood, which is going to be travelling on the seven seas. Now imagine that with each passing week, a plank on the boat is replaced by a new plank. Now, let us say that this process keeps on continuing till the planks you started off with have been replaced by new ones. Are you still the same person? Or are you some one else?" its the same boat with new planks...as moizza aptly said,"your choices of who you can be or who you can become always depend on what qualities or materials you have to start off with." its like we're born with a certain color palette- we can make green by mixing blue and yellow, but only if we have those two colors to begin with...
